Cost of elevated bridge increased by 10 to 15 percent in three years

PWD will now get work worth Rs 306 crore done at a higher cost.

Now the government will have to get the bridge built on the BRTS corridor at a higher cost. The cost of this bridge to be built between MR-9 to Naulakha intersection in 2021 was Rs 306 crore, which is now expected to increase by 10 to 15 percent. Now the PWD constructing the bridge will have to bear the escalation cost.

Although official sources say that the Central an amount of Rs 350 crore was sanctioned by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways for the elevated bridge of Indore, while the contract for construction of the bridge was awarded to the contractor agency for Rs 306 crore. The amount which increases accordingly will be adjusted in the approved cost. Out of the approved cost, the department already has an additional amount of Rs 44 crore. Whatever prices of cement, steel, labor and material etc. have increased in the last three years, the department will have to bear it.

Building a bridge in the middle of a busy road like the BRTS corridor is going to be extremely challenging for the contractor agency and the PWD along with the traffic. In the Bhoomi Pujan program of the bridge on Wednesday, the issue of constructing it within 15 months was raised. If this really happens then PWD will have to start the bridge work in pieces from both sides. Apart from this, digging will have to be done keeping in mind the sewerage and water lines passing through the corridor.
