The airport will be connected to Gandhinagar, with a 17-km elevated corridor also targeted for completion by the end of the year.
Indore.
Work on the underground route of the metro from the airport has started and soon a huge machine will also be used for the tunnel.
Agriban recently provided information about this. An underground track will be built to connect Gandhi Nagar to the airport, while the underground metro from MG Road will also extend to the airport.
The 32-kilometer Indore Metro network will include an 8.9-kilometer underground track, but the Palasia to MG Road underground track has not yet been approved. However, the Metro Corporation has begun work on the underground track on behalf of the airport. Hindustan Construction Tata Projects has been awarded the contract for the underground track, worth approximately ₹2,200 crore. The 22.62-kilometer metro line will be elevated, with work currently underway from Gandhi Nagar to Robot and from there to Khajrana Square. Beyond that, work on Bengali and Palasia has stalled. The Metro Corporation is aiming to expand the underground track from the airport to Gandhi Nagar to Vijay Nagar in the near future if it is completed.
Initiate connectivity:
This will make commuting from Vijay Nagar to the airport via metro easier. Meanwhile, work on the underground metro track has also begun at Regal Tiraha, and a station will be built near the Municipal Corporation, which is why other land, including the Bhau Sports Complex, is being used. For this reason, the company has just begun work at the airport, and tunneling will begin with the help of heavy machinery.
Metro work resumes despite airport management’s ban
Indore.
While the state government, the Airport Authority, and the Metro company have reached an agreement on the Devi Ahilyabai Holkar Airport underground metro station in Indore, the Airport Authority has not yet signed an MoU with the Metro company regarding the land transfer. When the Metro work began recently, the authority instructed the company not to proceed until the MoU was signed. However, after a few days of suspension, the company has resumed work without permission.
It is noteworthy that the Metro company has taken about one acre of land from the Airport Authority to build an underground metro station on the 20.84 acres of land received for airport expansion in front of the airport terminal.
A permanent land and about 10 acres of land were sought for temporary work. This land was given to the Airport Authority by the state government, so the authority had first asked for approval from the state government. After getting approval from the state government, the Airport Authority gave in-principle approval to the company. Also, before starting the work, an MoU had to be signed between the authority and the Metro company. Even before this, the Metro company had set up its setup here and started work for about two months. On getting information about this, the airport management had told the MD of the Metro company and other officials not to start the work until the MoU was signed. On this, the Metro company stopped the work for a few days, but now the company has started work again. Even this morning, digging was being done here by machines.
MoU will be signed from Airport Authority Headquarters
Senior airport officials said that since the land now belongs to the airport management and is being used for airport expansion, a memorandum of understanding (MOU) will be signed between the two parties to transfer a portion of the land to Metro. This will include land use, among other things.
Action will be taken if work is done without permission
The Airport Authority has granted permission to the Metro company to construct an underground metro station on its land, but the Metro company cannot begin work until the MoU is signed. Previously, the company was only granted permission to conduct soil testing, but upon commencing work, it was instructed to stop. Consequently, the company halted work. There is no information yet about whether it will resume work. If the company does resume work, it will be stopped, and necessary action will be taken for non-compliance.
