District Road Safety Committee meeting
Work on the flyover at Agrasen Square is set to begin soon. A detailed report of the surrounding area will be obtained within 10 days. The tender process will then begin. This decision was taken at a meeting of the District Road Safety Committee on Saturday. It was also decided that action will be taken against unfit vehicles and those without fitness certificates in the city starting Monday. Five teams have been formed for this purpose. These teams will seize vehicles without fitness certificates. School buses and passenger vehicles will be inspected on priority.
Currently, online challans are being issued at traffic signals at 58 intersections. This will be expanded to 94 intersections. Collector Shivam Verma, who chaired the meeting, said that service roads and diversions should be maintained at all flyover sites under construction in the city. Another meeting was held regarding fire safety. It was decided that space for the new fire station should be made available as soon as possible, so that it can be established soon.
Basement campaign will start again
- We will check that the basement is used only for parking.
- Encroachments will be removed from major intersections and roads. Action will be taken against illegal parking.
- Roadside shops will be instructed to improve traffic management.
Encroachment on 21 intersections and footpaths, claims of eradicating black spots remain incomplete
The work is not visible at the speed at which the meetings of the District Road Safety Committee are being held. 108 road accidents have taken place in three years at 16 black spots in the city. 106 people have lost their lives in the accidents. The corporation claims that it has made speed breakers and put up sign boards at two black spots in its part (in front of Vishesh Jupiter ahead of Teen Imli and near Prabhu weighing scale on Nemawar Road). However, the problem has not reduced at both the places. The service road of Teen Imli is in bad condition. Buses also pass through it. Parking is done on the road itself in front of the hospital.
On the other hand, wherever flyover construction is underway, the black spot problems remain. Whether it’s the Ralamandal flyover on the bypass or the area beyond the Rau flyover. Recently, the Collector held an emergency meeting and directed the authorities to improve the situation within three days, but the situation hasn’t improved significantly. Similarly, the helmet-wearing rule implemented by the former Collector also expired automatically with the expiry of its deadline. The campaign didn’t move forward.
