The journey will begin with a U-turn at LIG and an oval rotary at Teen Imli.

The administration is preparing to make Indore’s busiest roads, AB Road and Ring Road, signal-free. In the first phase, trials will begin at the LIG intersection and the oval rotary at Teen Imli. Traffic on AB Road from the LIG intersection to the MR-9 intersection will be relegated to the U-turn concept. There will be no crossing at the intersection. Traffic will continue to flow on both lanes.

Vehicles coming from the Ring Road and MIG will proceed forward and take a U-turn before returning. According to the proposal, no major construction will be undertaken at this time. A seven-day trial will be conducted. If the results are positive, a permanent cut will be made ahead of the intersection and traffic will be allowed to U-turn there.

Teen Imli: Traffic will go around the circle

The Teen Imli intersection will be converted to an oval rotary model. Cross-traffic traffic will be restricted here as well. Vehicles will continue to move through two lanes. The aim is to avoid long, stagnant queues due to the removal of signals.

Corporation, IDA, traffic police and all agencies should sit together and finalize the decision.

A full presentation was made on Wednesday in the presence of Urban Administration Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya. A suggestion was made to make the city’s major corridors signal-free, following the example of Kota. Architect Arjun Ablani said the trial would be conducted without any infrastructure changes. The proposals have also been shown to the traffic police, and approval has been received. The minister asked officials to meet with the corporation, IDA, traffic police, and all other agencies to finalize them. He said, “Where there are no signals, there will be no traffic jams.”

On the suggestion of making Jawahar Marg one-way, the mayor said – this is not possible

During the meeting, Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargava stated that Indore needs a 50-year master plan for traffic. The consultant explained that a traffic plan has been developed in collaboration with a similar company in Pune. Regarding the suggestion to make Jawahar Marg one-way, the mayor categorically stated that this is not possible. This is a commercial area, and cargo and loading vehicles pass through all the time, and they cannot be stopped. Furthermore, the traffic police lack sufficient enforcement. Mayor Bhargava also raised questions about the utility of flyovers. He stated that bridges are necessary, but first, they should be assessed for their intended use. Citing the example of the Phuti Kothi flyover, he said that it is built in a north-south direction, whereas the need was for an east-west direction. The road ends at Chandan Nagar, and only 20% of traffic travels on this flyover.
