The Ring Road from Pipliyahana to Bengali Square and Khajrana Square has become heavily congested due to increasing traffic over the years. Currently, the worst traffic situation is at the Robot Square and Radisson Square junctions. To address this, the Indore Development Authority (IDA) had earlier announced the construction of flyovers at both intersections.
While the flyover at Robot Square has already been inaugurated, work at Radisson Square has not been possible because of technical challenges. The metro line passes through the middle of the Ring Road, making the construction of a parallel flyover difficult.
As a result, the IDA has now prepared a design for a four-lane flyover between MR-10 Junction and Vijay Nagar Square. The estimated cost of the project is around ₹60 crore.
The authority had planned flyovers at all major intersections in the city. Former Chief Minister Mohan Yadav had inaugurated the Robot Square flyover, and about a year later, the project was completed. The IDA has completed around 11 major flyovers, significantly improving traffic flow on Ring Road.
Now, the Public Works Department (PWD) is constructing a flyover between LIG Square and Navlakha as part of the AB Road Corridor project.
However, due to the metro line running through the middle of the road, constructing flyovers at both Robot and Radisson Squares is not feasible. At Radisson Square, the underground metro station further complicates construction because the station’s foundation occupies much of the available space.
Therefore, the authority has decided to build the flyover between MR-10 and Vijay Nagar Square instead. The flyover will be approximately 600 metres long and 16 metres wide, carrying two lanes in each direction.
The design has been prepared with road safety standards in mind. According to IDA Executive Engineer Shivam Verma, the proposal has been sent to the government for approval, and a Detailed Project Report (DPR) is being prepared.
The estimated project cost is ₹60 crore, though the final amount will be determined after the DPR is completed.
The upcoming flyover, together with the existing metro line, is expected to significantly improve traffic movement on the busy MR-10 to Vijay Nagar corridor.
