Before the commercial run, a major change seems to be taking place in Indore’s metro project. After the opinion of Indore public representatives and metro stakeholders, it seems almost certain that the metro track from Bengali intersection itself will go underground and MG Road will be saved from major vandalism. The official decision in this regard will be taken on the proposal put forward by the state government after detailed study and the consent of many central agencies will also have to be taken in it.
On Saturday, Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav reviewed the functioning of the metro projects of Indore and Bhopal in Bhopal. in this meeting Urban Administration Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya, Additional Chief Secretary of Chief Minister’s Secretariat Dr. Rajesh Rajoura and Principal Secretary of Urban Administration Department Neeraj Mandloi and many other officials were also present. In the meeting, Vijayvargiya presented many facts related to the Metro project of Indore before the Chief Minister and also informed him about the issues raised in the meeting held recently. After understanding the whole matter, the Chief Minister said that the metro work should continue and the suggestions received from the public representatives and representative organizations of Indore city should also not be ignored. He said that the suggestions given by the elected representatives should be seriously considered. After a long discussion on all the issues related to the metro, everyone seemed to agree that instead of taking the metro underground from MG Road, it should be made underground from Bengali Square. With this, a large part of MG Road between Palasia and High Court will be saved from demolition, traffic will also not be affected and many big constructions will be saved from demolition. In case of undergrounding the metro from Bengali intersection, additional expenditure of Rs 500 to 800 crore will be incurred. The Chief Minister made it clear that the convenience of the people of Indore is our first priority and there is no problem even if we have to spend Rs 500 crore more for it. The officers present in the meeting Told them to study this proposal, take opinion of metro officials, get technical tests done, establish coordination with central agencies and financial institutions, so that it becomes easier to take the final decision. The idea of bringing the Metro within the city via the Agriculture College was considered impractical and it was feared that the cost of the project would increase significantly. There was also displeasure of both the Chief Minister and the Urban Administration Minister over the fact that there has been a lot of delay in the metro work in both Indore and Bhopal. Now take care that this does not happen and the further work should be completed on this basis by setting a deadline.
