Along with the proposed Western Bypass on the outskirts of Indore, the Eastern Bypass will also be built by NHAI. A few months ago, there were talks about giving the Eastern Bypass to the state government for construction. The matter was in cold storage. On Thursday, when Union Minister Nitin Gadkari was informed about the matter, he discussed with Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav and agreed that the Eastern Bypass would also be built by NHAI. The Union Minister said that the road construction work will be done by NHAI, whereas the state government can work on land acquisition and development on both sides of the bypass. Industrial area markets will be set up on both sides of the bypass.
The minister expressed displeasure over the delay in the work of Indore-Balwada six lane and ordered to complete the project soon. He said, if the delayed projects are not completed by 2025, the contractors will be changed. During this, along with Indore-Khandwa road, Ralamandal, MR-10, Arjun Barod flyover and Indore-Harda project were also discussed. Seeing the importance of Mortakka bridge on Indore-Omkareshwar road and the interest of devotees in Omkareshwar during Ujjain Simhastha, Minister Gadkari talked about installing artworks of Adi Shankaracharya, Narmada Mata and Devi Ahilyabai Holkar here. NHAI Project Director Sumesha Banjal was present in the review meeting.

* The 77km long Eastern Bypass will start near Shipra and pass through Double Chowki, Simrol, etc. areas and end back at Pithampur.
* Western bypass will start from Pithampur and will pass through Betma, Hatod and meet Shipra.
Its length will be 64 km.
* The cost of the project is Rs 4 thousand crores. The land acquisition process being done for the Western Bypass is incurring additional expenses.
