Preparations to build the Eastern Ring Road along with the Western Ring Road in the city are being started at a rapid pace. By dividing the Eastern Ring Road into three parts, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has invited tenders worth Rs 2200 crore for their construction. Two tenders of Rs 800 crore each and one tender of Rs 600 crore have been called to build the 77 km long Eastern Ring Road.

The companies that will take the contract to build these stretches will have to get the road ready within two years after getting the work order. Earlier, NHAI has issued the first notification to acquire 640 hectares of land required for the Eastern Ring Road. Offers have also been sought from companies to call tender for road construction at the end of January itself. Officials say that the speed with which the process is being done to start the work on the Eastern and Western Ring Roads shows that the Central Government wants to do this work very quickly.

New ring roads will be built simultaneously on both sides

NHAI Project Director Sumesh Banshal, while confirming the call for tender for building the Eastern Ring Road, said that the tenders will be opened by the first week of March. The authority is preparing to do the work of Eastern and Western Ring Road simultaneously, so that the traffic in all four directions of the city gets major relief in the next two-three years and the ambitious project can be completed within the stipulated time. Tenders worth about Rs 2000 crore have already been called for the construction of the Western Ring Road.
